Blackbird

To be honest, I was on the fence on purchasing a Blackbird for a while. While I knew it would be high quality and it is a super-cool looking razor, it was a fair chunk of change. The more reviews I read and videos I watched on it, made me think that the blade feel would be something like shaving with a full throttle lawn mower. I don't enjoy Harsh blade feel so I even tossed around the idea of purchasing the Lite version, but there was so much talk about the excellent efficiency of the standard model that I decided to try my luck and order a standard, machined Blackbird. The first time I shaved with it, I braced myself thinking it was about to peel off my face like peeling an apple. I could feel some blade for sure, but not bad.. let the weight of the razor do the work... wait a minute... it was very smooth. First pass was done, swiping off 3 days of stubble like it was never there. Not much was left for a second pass, but after I went over everything a second time, it was one of the closest shaves I've ever had. ZERO nicks and no irritation. Very happy with this razor and it just keeps getting better as I continue get more familiar with it.

This is an absolute home run of a razor. I have very coarse hair and prefer a distinct "blade feel" for guidance while shaving. This razor checks every single box. I use it to shave both my head and my face. On my face, it provides an incredibly close shave that feels amazing, cutting through coarse hair cleanly without any pulling or tugging. Right now, I’m running a Feather blade in it, but because it feels like a razor that can handle absolutely anything, I'm excited to start cycling through the rest of my blade collection to really put it to work. I loved the standard version so much that I already went out and purchased the open comb base plate. Honestly, I think my search is over, I can finally stop buying razors. This feels more like a "forever razor" than anything else I’ve ever owned. That’s not to say my previous razors were bad, but this is absolutely the one for me. Wish they were selling top caps so i could use my standard bar as a travel razor.

Very efficient razor, superb workmanship and presentation.Will I like the handle design I must say that I find it very slipper and I think a slight redesign possibly with some knuckling on the raised machined planes.Hence the 4 Star rating instead of 5

Beautifully made razor and excellent quality, but unfortunately the Open Comb was much too aggressive for my skin. I experienced significant irritation after my first shave and realized it wasn't suitable for me.

The quality of this machined made razor in house was totally amazing talent holding tight tolerances with a great polished finish very impressive. I tried many razors in the few years I been wet shaving nothing comes close to the design of your razer. Smoothest and closest shave ever for me with no nicks or cuts.

This is my first safety razor. I do like using it after 4 shaves. I kinda wish I would've bought the vector instead. So, still getting used to it.

I bought the black titanium with a standard safety bar and had to ease off a bit due to the burns and scrapes. I ordered the Lite safety bar and it’s perfect! I cannot grow a beard, but still get enough growth to shave every day. I prefer to go against the grain for a very close shave. I cannot give this Blackbird razor enough compliments. It is damned near perfect. The only way it can be better is if it was black and polished so the razor would glide over my skin effortlessly. I highly recommend this to anyone who uses a safety razor. I’ve used many brands of razors and none has left my face baby smooth as this one has. I actually look forward to shaving now.

Il ne m'a fallut que deux rasages pour en avoir la maitrise. Il est devenu mon rasoir de tous les jours. Si bien que l'utilisation des autres rasoirs ( de très bons rasoirs, de très bons fabricants ) est devenue anecdotique ( si je les utilise c'est uniquement parce qu'ils sont là ). C'est simple, si le Blackbird avait été mon premier rasoir, il serait le seul en ma possession.

Le rasoir est très fluide facile à prendre en main, au bout du cinquième rasage pour ma part car aucun rasoir de sûreté avant celui-ci. Je recommande le manche court, le manche long demande encore plus de douceur je pense car c’est celui que j’ai.

I expected the handle to be a little thicker, but it is not an impediment, it is not a deceived hope. It is a balanced device in size and weight. I get the most satisfaction 48 hours after a 3-pass shave, my face and head still don't require a new shave. It's part of the inspired choices in my life.

My new daily driver. Very efficient razor, and has the most blade feel of any safety razor I’ve used. Don’t let this deter you, however, as once you get the shaving angle down, it’s very smooth and gives closer shaves than any open comb I’ve tried. If you like blade feel, and/or an efficient razor that gives a close shave, you can’t do better than this!

Magnificent razor. I'm glad I went with the Lite SB because this is the limit of what I like in regards to blade feel. This razor paired with a Personna GEM blade is very efficient. The razor is very well balanced. Its definitely in my top 3 out of the 10 razors I own.

First of all working with Shane and the fine folks at Blackland is top shelf. I purchased the blackbird lite in stainless. It was unlike any razor I've ever used. Each shave was getting better and better. The razor checked all the boxes except for the weight. Since I was in my 30 day window I emailed Shane and sent the razor back with the instructions provided and purchased the titanium blackbird lite. After trying numerous DE, SE and straight razors... I have finally found the one!

I am a very experienced DE razor-user . I have been shaving with a DE razor since I was 16, quite a few years ago (smile). I have even used a straight razor to shave. I’m a black man with sensitive skin. The blackbird razor gives me a very clean shave with just two passes, incredibly close and smooth. I am extremely happy and satisfied with the razor..

My first experience with the blackbird was a little rough in comparison to my Gillette fatboy. Within 3 shaves I had the best shaving experience I’ve ever had with a perfectly clean shave with only two passes, and no irritation. The Blackbird is an impressive looking and performing razor. I had the titanium version before I really had my technique perfected and sold it (idiot) because I wasn't using it. I opted for the SS one this time with both safety bar base plates and am extremely happy. I also want to point out the great service I received with this purchase. When attempting to attach the handle there was binding. I contacted customer service and they responded within a couple of hours, not days. After a couple of back and forth emails they sent me a new razor and that one worked perfectly.

I bought the Open Comb - The razor should come with a "Warning Label". Learned on the MuhleR41 Open Comb before I knew what an Aggressive shave was.... But the Blackbird is on another level!! Pray to the aftershave alter of the Blackbird Razor God and ask for forgiveness that you have used other razors before this one, and hope he hears your prayers and grants you a steady hand. This razor should only be used by real men who have looked death straight in the eyes and not blinked, and the criminally insane. That being said: If you take it slow and give yourself time to get use to the razor, it is amazing. If not, I promise you that you will not only be cutting your face, you'll also be cutting a piece of your soul.

The Blackbird Lite razor with the long handle, fitted with Russian-made Astra Green Label blades, gives me the best shaving experience I have ever had. Following the website's instructions on shaving technique, I got completely familiar with the razor/blade's characteristics. I get just enough "tug" on my beard to angle the razor for optimal efficiency. After just a couple of days shaving with brush and lather, I incur no nicks or "burn" at all - just a clean, comfortable shave. The Blackbird's heft feels good in the hand; I can let the razor's mass do most of the work. The longer handle gives me more control. I can strongly recommend the Blackbird Lite razor for those with a medium-coarse beard and tender skin.

The black color was always destined for the Blackbird, just like the Blackbird jet. It looks super sleek and elegant. I can't wait to get the Backbird Titanium and Vector Titanium in this black finish. Thanks Shane

I have sworn by my Blackbird Ti for years and was always hoping for a black version! Absolutely LOVE IT!! As usual, an absolutely great feel and flawless shave!

I've used this razor with the Lite base plate a couple of times. The blade that I used was an Astra blade. I usually don't shave on a daily basis - the first shave was three days and the second was two days of growth. In both cases, the razor was very smooth and I experienced no razor burn or any cuts or nicks of any sort. My usual procedure is to complete about 1.5 passes - my first pass is with the grain - short strokes all the way. I then do a second pass just along the neck, chin and lower jaw and this one is across the grain, just to get everything nice and smooth. I got this razor in stainless steel - I only wish it had some cross threading on the handle. I prefer long handles and while it was easy to hold, it would have felt more secure with some cross threading like that on a Timeless razor handle. I have some extra 316 stainless steel handles and will try one of the other ones, the next time I use this razor. The nice thing is that even with the Lite base plate (I like mild razors), it was very efficient in removing three day growth. The razor is very nicely made, looks nice and perform well - this one is a keeper.

First off, Shane and his crew have truly amaing customer service that's rivaled only by the quality of their product. The razor has an ultra premium feel to it. It is HEAVY. After exchanging the machined version I wound up with the polished version and I find it glides across my skin a lot better. Also, I shave in the shower each morning, and I do find it to have less grip when wet than the machined option. That said, this is an aggressive razor with a head shape that very little to naturally guide you into the correct angle. It has a seeper learning curve than other razors I have used, and a whole lot more blade feel: hence the 4 stars instead of 5. The bottom line is that it's a high quality piece of kit, but I suspect there are better options for me personally. At least the handle is compatible with razorock and merkur heads/baseplates due to the thread pitch.

First time using a safety razor and it's great! Shave is fantastic and no more razor burn or non uniform shaves unlike my various Gillette and Bic razors through the years. Highly recommend the Blackbird for new users. It's taken me about a month to perfect the technique as it is counter-intuitive as to how you move the razor angle. The blades provided were perfect for starting out. Wish I would have made the investment years ago and the change to the safety razor. Great product Blackland!

I started out with a parker 65R but no matter how gently I shaved the weight of the razor alone would give me bumps. Saw an ad for the Blackbird and couldn't get it off my mind as I am an aviation mechanic and my tism was being tickled. The sub 100g weight is perfect for my face and it offers a close but gentle shave with the lite plate and the right blades. Once I get through this 30 brand sample pack my Grandpa gave me and I find what blades are my favorite, I will be getting the rest of the base plates.

Very efficent! I have the Lite and the Regular Open Comb. The open comb has lots of blade feel but leaves you surprisingly not irritated. If you are a mid-range aggressive person go Lite, if you like more feel, go with the regular. Beautiful razor.

The Blackland Blackbird is easily one of the most efficient and well-built razors I’ve used. The machining and overall craftsmanship are top-tier, and it feels like a true precision instrument in hand. It handles coarse 2–3 days of growth effortlessly and delivers extremely close shaves with great blade feedback and control. Once you find the angle, it’s smooth, consistent, and very rewarding to use. For anyone who appreciates high-end engineering and serious performance, the Blackbird absolutely lives up to the reputation.

the best razor I have ever used is the Henson. I Don't know why I keep looking for something better, the last two or three I have purchased were a complete waste of money. Yours is close. It holds the blade tight no chatter. But frankly is more than twice the price and four times the weight. It is just too damn heavy. Well made, great looking and comparable shave. Just way too heavy.

An extraordinary razor, it's impossible not to love it just by touching it. It's absolutely perfect, the finish is beautiful, and the weight is truly balanced.

Love this razor. What blade you use is very important. I used a few different blades and thought I wasn’t going to be able to use the razor but then I found the right blade to compliment my razor and it has been great.

What I noticed is that this razor bends the blade slightly which creates an optimal angle towards the skin. I absolutely love it!

I love the razor. How did I find you? I used MS CoPilot to give me advice about shaving. I have a Henson razor and realized I wasn't using it correctly. I also have a cheap brush, soap, etc. I asked CoPilot for recommendations for upgrades all around. It recommended the Blackbird LiteSB. I found the LiteSB a little too light for me. I have sensitive skin but thick and sparse stubble. I realized I need more blade feel so I ordered the regular Safety Bar. I used it yesterday and love it. I've never been able to use my safety razor every day. By the time I get to Friday my skin is red and I'm bleeding in several places. So far I'm not having that difficulty. I'm not sure where CoPilot got its recommendation but it clearly singled you all out as the best razor.

The Blackbird/Lite gets a lot of hype, and based on my experience, deservedly so. It took me a week to find the right angle (shallow) and the right blade, but once I did, the shaves were efficient with the Lite and now leave my face consistently feeling great. Of course, it also looks great, but that isn't as important as its performance.

Love all my Ti Blackbirds (SB, OC and Lite). Looking forward to getting Osprey.

All I can say is wow, best shaves ever with the Blackbird Lite ss. It took awhile to get comfortable riding the cap but once I did the efficiency is amazing and the shaves are bloodless. I don't think there is any way to get my face to feel smoother than the Blackbird does now. Thanks Blackland!

Overall design and execution are low quality. I expected a premium product, but this is far from it. This is a very good razor. It is mid-range in aggressiveness but also provides a very smooth and efficient shave. This was a good buy.

Well builded. Nice handle with good grip. Definitely more agressive than my Tatara masamune and Timeless 68. First shave was smooth and efficient. You can definitely feel the blade. 2nd shave with an Astra green blade included was better. Can be a daily shaver if used with care. Not an autopilot razor. Update: this has become my favorite razor among 30 in my collection. Paired with a Wizamet blade is a dream

Best razor to date! It is built extremely well and feels high quality, worth every penny. The shave itself is incredible close and smooth. I learned to use just a little bit more steep of an angle compared to other razors but it only took 1-2 tries to truly dial it in.

Very clean shave for sure but the blade feel are there 100%, how ever i am still able to pilot the Blackbird fly across my face with a DFS with out and nicks and blood , but blade feel are not really my thing so i will order the Lite SB to try later on..

It shaves well, however, the grip is a little slick for me when my hands are wet. I would love some type of grip sleeve.
